8/15/08: What a mess. I'll just say I drew upon my past experiences in which I'd think of supposedly great comebacks long after the moment has passed. There was a great Saturday Night Live sketch about that several years ago. There's this guy at a party who repeatedly gets insulted. He embarrasses himself by uttering comebacks long after the moment passes. Later he invents a time machine and for the sole purpose of going back to the party in the past so he can deliver his comebacks at the right moments. He does so and he's a big hit at the party.
